Duck Brand Duct Tape is the consumer-facing brand of ShurTech Brands, a manufacturer of tape and adhesive products with a wide retail presence. The project involved adding features to an existing Symfony PHP application for the Duck Brand website, completed while consulting with Tenthwave, a New York-based digital agency managing the account.
Symfony is a PHP framework for building web applications with a structured MVC architecture. Working within an existing Symfony application as a consultant requires familiarizing with the codebase conventions, routing structure, and existing controllers and templates before making additions — a different starting point than a greenfield build.
The feature additions included several jQuery and JavaScript modules implemented on both the front end and within the back-end admin interface. Consumer product websites for brands like Duck Brand typically include interactive elements that support product discovery, promotional campaigns, and user engagement — features that benefit from JavaScript-driven interaction without requiring full page reloads.
CSS and HTML edits were also part of the scope, addressing visual presentation issues or extending the existing styling to accommodate new content and feature areas. Working within an inherited codebase for a branded product site requires attention to maintaining the brand's visual standards while integrating new UI elements that fit cleanly with what already exists. The consulting model with Tenthwave meant contributing to the agency's ongoing Duck Brand development work, coordinating with their team on what was being built and how changes would be integrated.
