New York Towns

New York Towns was a consulting project for Tenthwave, a New York-based digital agency, to enhance a Drupal installation.**

New York Towns was a Drupal-based platform serving an association of town governments across New York State, providing a shared resource for collecting and distributing news, information, and resources among member municipalities. The project was a consulting engagement with Tenthwave, a New York-based digital agency, to enhance the existing Drupal installation.

Municipal government associations face an interesting content management challenge — they serve member organizations rather than individual end users, and their platform needs to support both the association's own communications and the information needs of dozens or hundreds of member town governments. Content organization, member access, and information discoverability across a statewide network of municipalities requires careful Drupal architecture.

The enhancement work involved extending the existing Drupal installation to improve the platform's capabilities for its member-focused use case. Drupal's content type and taxonomy system provides the foundation for organizing news and information by geographic region, topic, or government function — making it well-suited for a platform where town governments across a state need to find information relevant to their specific situations.

The consulting engagement with Tenthwave placed development contributions within the agency's workflow for the New York Towns account, requiring familiarity with the existing Drupal codebase and the particular requirements of a government association platform. Work was scoped to specific functional enhancements rather than a full rebuild, integrating changes into the established site architecture.
