Shurtape is a large manufacturer of tape and adhesive products with a broad product line spanning consumer, industrial, and specialty applications. The project involved developing a custom Drupal theme for the company's website, completed while consulting with Tenthwave, a New York-based digital agency. The scope required both significant front-end development and meaningful back-end Drupal work.
The product catalog presented the primary structural challenge. A manufacturer with a large product line needs filtering, search, and browsing tools that allow customers to navigate to relevant products efficiently. A product filter and search results system were built using Drupal's views and faceted search capabilities, along with custom blocks for product detail page data types. An authorized retailer finder was also implemented, allowing customers to locate where Shurtape products are sold in their area.
A library of custom JavaScript functions and jQuery plugins was written specifically for the theme, covering: a thumbnail slider for product image galleries, an infinite carousel for related content or product browsing, a slideshow for featured content sections, accordions for structured product information, dynamic tabs for organizing detail page content, flyout menu navigation for the product catalog hierarchy, and jQuery-based form validation.
The entire site was built responsive across phone and tablet resolutions, requiring mobile-specific UI adaptations for navigation (the flyout menu needed a touch-friendly mobile equivalent), the product filter interface, and other interactive components that behave differently on touch devices than on desktop browsers with mouse and keyboard input.
